Although environmental issues have been to the fore in the recent years, the developments in international law and actions before international courts are growing but still limited, questioning whether these fora are the right ones to achieve the goals of protecting the environment or fighting global warming. However, the law develops on the domestic and international stage on these issues but requires rethinking the field, which is conceived through the prism of individual protection. Starting from the existing legal developments of international organisations and bodies, this seminar seeks to explore how through ideas such as the rights of nature, the common goods, the rights of future generation, the rethinking of judicial remedies, the States’ obligation in this area might evolve.
